Convert Mexican Pesos to US Dollars in Your Head
This is an approximation as the peso to dollar rate constantly fluctuates, but over the past few years it’s been close to 20 pesos to a 1 US dollar. If we assume that rate is fixed, we can get a good rough estimate by doing it in our head. You can first round up if needed to the nearest tenth. Next, eliminate the last digit (remembe with division right-most 0’s can eliminate each other). And lastly divide by 2 (tens value). That’s it.
Examples:
$230 pesos. No need to round. Eliminate last digit, $230. Now we have $23. Divide by 2. $23/2 = ~$11 USD. So $230 pesos is approximately $11 US dollars.
$19,000 pesos. No need to round. Eliminate last digit, $19,000. Now we have $1,900. Divide by 2. $1,900/2 = ~$950 USD. So $19,000 pesos is approximately $950 US dollars.
Of course you can just use Google “230 mexican pesos to us dollars” to get an exact conversion, but the above works when you just want to know an approximation quickly.
To go from US dollar to Mexican, you do the opposite. Multiply by 2 then add a 0 to that. Again, this is an approximation technique as the peso to dollar conversion fluctuates.
